Temple Quarry

Salt Lake City, Utah
Overview:
Temple Quarry is one of the original Quarries where granite was quarried and used to construct the Salt Lake Temple. In certain summer months, it is a dry white granite river bed with a few large fallen trees. It also features extraordinarily large boulders in various spots which can make for interesting photos as well surrounded by tall trees, towering evergreens and heavily wooded areas. You can take pictures on the riverbed, surrounding large boulders, or in the more wooded areas. Pictures taken here have simple backgrounds, adding more emphasis to the people featured in the images. Engagements, Bridals, and Children are great subjects to photograph at Temple Quarry.

The Good:
Very unique landscape. Temple Quarry is beautiful during the late summer months when the riverbed is dry and in winter when everything is covered with a thick blanket of snow.

The Bad:
Only good at certain times of the year. During spring runoff the river is running too strong to make good use of the riverbed, however the surrounding areas are still very pretty. Limited number of shots.

Our Opinion:
We shoot here commonly as part of a multi-location shoot. We’ve been known to snap a few pictures here, and then move to another location further up the canyon for a greater variety of shots. You can always get great photos at temple quarry, and we highly recommend it.
