Changing Seasons…

September 14th, 2007

As the seasons change, so do the style and flair of the images taken at that time of year. I was hoping to give clients an update so they can know what to expect and plan for during their fall season photography. The sun setting is earlier now, and we lose about 15 minutes of daylight every week or so.

San Francisco / Northern California
You’ve no doubt noticed that temperatures are in the low 70’s, and also dipping down into the 60’s. The water temperature is also starting to cool more, so shots at the beach might be even chillier. Then again… the water is always cold. :)

Many native plants to the region don’t display much color throughout the fall. However, most of the botanical gardens (UC Berkeley especially) have non-native plants and trees that display rich seasonal color.

During October the vineyards throughout wine country start displaying delicious yellows and reds. The Old Sonoma Highway as well as Highway 21 are splendid drives throughout the month. The beautiful fall leaves and photo opportunity present an excellent excuse to head out for an engagement or bridal session and a wine tasting.

Salt Lake Area
As you no doubt have noticed, many trees are still green, which gives a few brides the chance to still get some great pictures with summer’s touch. Usually early to mid october is when the trees in the valley start changing and that’s the ideal time for shooting autumn themed pictures in the valley. It’s great for family shoots as well, so get your sessions booked!

Great Salt Lake
With the colder temperatures, the insects near the Great Salt Lake are starting to greatly reduce in numbers. In a very short while, the window for doing pictures out there will be open. The Great Salt Lake is an awesome place for people who want pictures that don’t look like they were taken in Utah.

Park City / Canyons
We were up in Park City last week and the leaves are starting to change. It’s the same with Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons. Right now, the higher you go the more color you’ll see. I’m told that there was a lower level of moisture received throughout the spring/summer and that the colors may not be as bright as past years… not that our clients ever have to worry about colors looking dull. :)

I’ll post another update as Autumn starts changing to Winter with more ideas on locations and what can be expected.
